Many thought it would never happen, but in 2008, the United States elected its first president of African American descent, Barack Obama.
It wasn’t the only first in Obama’s life and career. He was the first Hawaiian to become president. He was the first Black American to become editor of the Harvard Law Review.
He was also one of the first to use social networking intensely to reach supporters in his election campaign. Obama was re-elected president in 2012.
